Break Of Dawn Review: Duran Duran @ Stubb’s

Duran Duran released Hungry Like The Wolf on Rio 29 years ago. Last night, the 80s super group proved they haven’t lost a beat when they absolutely killed their performance to a crowd that literally spilled out into the streets.

Whether it was an original mainstay such as Hungry Like The Wolf, an old Motown classic like Papa Was A Rolling Stone or even their newest releases, Duran Duran showed off vocals that hadn’t lost a beat and performance chops honed over the course of three decades.

A look of awe, wonder and respect could be seen in the faces of the over-capacity crowd — no doubt many of whom expected to see a fun shadow of the band’s former self, only to find a band that could still out-energize the majority of other bands at SXSW who hadn’t even been born when Duran Duran released their first single.

Duran Duran certainly proved they are more than just a product of the 80s. Despite their periodic absence from the music scene, they have shown their ability to transcend a singular time period.
