Break Of Dawn Review: John Popper and the Duskray Troubadours

How good is John Popper?

How about: He can wail on his harp while picking up a fallen box of harmonicas, reading to see what key the harp is and putting it back in the right place in the box…all without losing a beat on the song. (Don’t believe us? Check out the video below.)

Popper has found an easy home in his band John Popper and the Duskray Troubadours, showing the comfort he’s settled into outside of Blues Traveler. John Popper and the Duskray Troubadours still have the blues touched with a hint of pop, but without the Top 40 watering down often seen in Blues Traveler.

The band energetically rolled through a host of songs on its eponymous lone album, delighting the crowd with Popper’s intense harp skills. The entire band drew in all those in attendance thanks to the readily apparent home-iness and congeniality the band feels for each other.

The Duskray Troubadours are truly a fine home for Popper and his mad instrumental and vocal skills.
