UK indie rockers Noah and the Whale visited Austin tonight on a business trip. Donning sport coats and ties, the shaggy buzz band took the stage delivered a performance that visibly “closed the deal” with their SXSW audience.
Lead singer Charlie Fink kept a solemn poker-face for the first few songs, working in tandem with his even-keeled vocals. Only during the band’s well-know “5 Years Time” did he manage to crack a smile. Fink’s serious nature was nicely juxtaposed against the giant grins of violinist Tom Hobden.
The highlight had to be the last song of the show, a spirited version of “L-I-F-E-G-O-E-S-O-N” — a song that sounds delightfully Tom Petty-esque.
