Break Of Dawn Review: Josh Ritter @ St. David’s Historic Sanctuary

On Mar 19, 2011 4:00 am, in SXSW - Music, by freecreditscore.com

Josh Ritter was speaking to the choir, so to speak, in a church filled with enthusiasts waiting to hear his gentle vocals and plucking guitar. Singing songs rich in story, Ritter drew in every audience member with his hauntingly delicate songs.

Taking his time to draw out each story-ridden song, Ritter didn’t rush in the least and every song was the better for it. With a pacing as delicate as his guitar, not a single note felt forced. Instead, every song came out as if nature dictated their pacing, not Ritter.

Thanks to the anticipation the songs built, the audience was eerily quiet in the large church. At times, you could hear the stage creak as Ritter shifted his wait during a song. The only time one actually felt the presence of other in the audience was during the loud applause that greeted each song’s finish.
